Totem is the fiftieth chapter in Gunnerkrigg Court. It starts here. This chapter marks the start of Volume 6, as well as the end of another summer.
Summary[]
Summer holiday is about to end, and Annie is visiting Coyote one last time before school starts. The previously seen horned rabbit shows up to undergo the ritual to become human. Coyote explains a bit about life and mind before he drags the Rabbit's soul out of it in the form of a totem, then he gives the totem to Annie. Annie leaves then to bring it to the court. On her way she meets Andrew Smith whom has also spent the summer at the court. Annie tells him about the totem, and then they go to the institution where bodies are made for the forest creatures.
Here they meet an individual that explains the court's role in this body switching. The two of them leave and after a bit split up. Annie walks to her new room for this year, where she sees Katerina Donlan. They start talking, but Annie quickly finds that Paz is also there. Annie figures that the two of them might need some privacy, and she leaves them alone so she can check on Reynardine.

Trivia[]
- The Year 10 dorms are in apartment buildings. These apartment buildings are based on the iconic building featured in the 1994-2004 television series Friends.
- In the female dormitories, students are housed in the apartment that corresponds to that rented by Monica Geller and Rachel Greene (up to season 6) and Chandler Bing (from season 6 to the end of the series), while in the male dormitories, they are housed in the apartment corresponding to that rented by Joey Tribbiani and Chandler Bing (up to season 6). The apartment that is not occupied by the students is inhabited by robots based on the characters that would have lived there in Friends: Clangler Bing (Chandler Bing) and Joey Tribbianoid (Joey Tribbiani) for the female dorms and Mono-can [Geller?] (Monica Geller) and Rachel Green (Rachel Greene) for the male dorms.
