Ayilu is the name given to a Fairy whom Antimony Carver met by The Annan Waters.

History[]

Originally a resident of Gillitie Wood, Ayilu was one of the two last members of her class to pass the Test--which required her to die--to get a new body, along with her best friend, Red. The two met Annie Carver when she falls down into the woods and the two confront her, believing she can help them with the Test. Despite Ayilu and Red’s pleas, Annie refused to help her in this, but Ayilu eventually passed the test with the help of Ysengrin and his stomach (Chapter 15, Page 16) after Annie was saved by her best friend Katerina Donlan. After her death and subsequent transformation into a human, Ayilu enrolled at Gunnerkrigg Court, in Foley House. However, after Ayilu and Red, then unnamed, both became human, they grew apart, mainly because Ayilu believed that Red "changed". It turns out that the change to which Ayilu objected was purely aesthetic, and after Red gets a hair cut and returns her hair back to its spiky state Ayilu begs to be her friend again, which Red accepts— much to the shock of Annie and Kat.

In Chapter 36: Red Gets a Name it was revealed that she can manipulate other people's memory, at least when in ethereal shape. She is also, like other transformed fairies and animals, quite skilled at doing amusing things in etheric form while simultaneously doing complex tasks like learning advanced physics and math with her physical body. In her etheric form she can create massive illusions, which she combines with her manipulative abilities to make them particularly convincing; she used these abilities to fool many of the other people in her class, as well as Annie, believe she is dead, although Red objects to this. When Annie accidentally calls Red “Red” because it is the nickname that she and Kat used for her, Red and Ayilu grow apart again, but cannot stay apart for long.

The duo later help Annie and her friends expel Jeanne the ghost, although Red does not approve of Annie’s methods and after Annie and Red give Ayilu her name— which is not Blue, the nickname Annie and Kat used for her, but instead a flub that Red came up with after accidentally saying “I love you” to her friend —Red asks Annie to never talk to the two friends again, after which they leave.

Personality[]

Ayilu can be short-tempered and sassy, like Red, but is also more down-to-earth and reserved, and does not appear to like meeting new people. She shows her care for Red more frequently than Red shows her care for her, and often uses her abilities to garner attention from her peers, showing a more attention-seeking side to herself. She is also somewhat friendlier than Red.
